About This Tour

Ditmas Park is a Flatbush neighborhood of detached wooden houses built mostly between 1902 and 1914, when the developer Lewis H. Pounds graded the land, laid out streets and sold lots to builders. This walk visits nine places in and around it: two landmark districts, a block of bungalows, Queen Anne and Tudor Revival houses, a block of larger houses in the neighboring landmark district, and the Brighton Line station and shopping street at its center. Each stop gives the architects, dates and landmark status, with sources. Nearly all of the houses are private homes, so please view them from the sidewalk.

Tour Highlights

See a block of bungalows designed by one architect for one builder in 1909.
Compare late Queen Anne houses by different architects on a single street.
Find the Tudor Revival house built in 1927 among houses from the 1900s.
Compare these houses with the larger, earlier ones one district over.
Learn how a developer graded the land, laid sewers and set deed restrictions before selling lots.
Stand at the open-cut subway station whose station house dates to 1907.
